Hi there and happy Friday.
Cooking is meditative. When I cook, my mind wanders into lanes I don’t always expect. That’s why when I was chopping and prepping this autumnal kale salad last night, I was thinking of the news stories I’d heard during the day, and I started to cry. Like most of you, I’m reeling with the horror of the death and devastation of innocent lives in Israel and Gaza. Every time I see a news report, it ends with my eyes brimming with tears for ALL of the innocent children and their families, these victims who are the ultimate casualties of war. It’s a complicated issue, and I don’t pretend to know as much as I should. But I do believe that all sides, all humans, deserve peace. Times are heavy right now. But I hope we can pull together to be there for one another. How you can help aid groups to support victims of this devastating Israeli-Palestinian war.
And, how to protect your mental health when the news is so stressful. Lots of helpful advice here. Take care. <3

I have followed you and subscribed to this newsletter for many years. I love it and look forward to it. I feel like I know you since I read every word. Unfortunately, the article you suggested about the Middle East glossed over the most basic fact… they cut the heads off babies. The kidnapped and raped grandmothers. I understand you not wanting to look as if you are supporting one side over the other. However, it’s just better to say we are all wishing, hoping and praying for peace rather than highlight an article that conveniently avoided the most horrific part. I’m still a big fan of you and the newsletter, I just wish everyone didn’t feel the need to include a narrative that isn’t helpful.

Thank you! Thank you! I’ve been looking for more kale recipes. Dubrovnik – It’s been my dream destination for a couple of decades, at least. My oldest son was Navy and had the chance to visit there on one of his air craft carrier’s Med Cruises. He’d probably still say it was his favorite of all the places the Navy took him. The photos were to die for, and the food was excellent and the locals amazingly friendly.
