Hi friends and happy Fri-YAY to all of you.
Kudos and clinks to another week that will be remembered as one that helped shape the future of our history. If you didn’t watch the Presidential debate, you may have been the only one who wasn’t waiting to witness the potential clash of these two political titans. No matter which side of the fence you sit, you gotta admit, these two candidates have made more people care about politics than one can remember.
And the whole time I was watching the debate? All I could see was the Saturday Night Live sketch writing itself. Alec Baldwin as the Donald? It’s gonna be a good season.
In other news, I’ve totally been influenced by my upcoming project for 2017 that I’m nanoseconds away from sharing with you. And so, I’ve been keeping up with my best intentions of meal planning for the week and making more “cleaning out the fridge” meals, especially for lunch, like the salad above that was yesterday’s lunch. Which was actually a mash up of leftovers from my epic Italian Salad Platter recipe from earlier this week, that I actually cooked (even though there was no cooking) the week before! Pat on my back and self congrats. My fridge will soon be bare and ready to stock up once again.
Last week we took a quick weekender to south-central Utah to Capitol Reef National Monument, an absolutely astonishing feat of Mother Nature and noted for it’s display of spectacular fall leaves and incredible star watching. Sitting at over 11,000 feet in elevation and just a few miles outside of Brian Head Ski Resort (designated as the 2nd highest inhabited town in the U.S., and yes! they do sell oxygen tanks here!) we were ready for hiking and biking and leaf gathering.
And then it snowed. And it was C.O.L.D. But why fret about it? We’re used to whacky weather. We made the best of it and still discovered more gorgeous scenery only Utah can share. If you haven’t made it here yet, what are you waiting for???
Next week I’m out of town again (I know! Why does everything have to fall into line at once!) for a retreat that could be life changing, or incredibly embarrassing, or both. If you care to follow along on my
misadventures, I’ll be sharing more on Instagram, Instagram stories and Snap.
But first, let’s get into this week’s list of Friday Faves. Have a grand weekend everybody!
So this happened this week. Snapchat is just Snap now, and what do you really think about their new line of Spectacles (check out the video). Seems like they’re like a fashion-forward Go-Pro and could totally be fun. I see a nightmare on the horizon for Santa Claus.
“He and Michelle have also done more than any other First Couple to confront the problems that plague the American food system.” Damn straight. I loved this article on Obama and food and the Bourdain episode was thumbs up.
This game day beer chili is totally on point.
Breakfast corndogs? I AM SO THERE.
Is it PRAY-leen or PRAH-leen? Who cares? Just give me the brownies!
Thick and chewy, these brownies are going to be my diet’s nemesis.
Forget for waiting ’til after school to eat this cake. SPRINKLES!
Awesome roundup of 30 kitchen hacks. Smart.
This skillet lasagna. Can I get a HELLZ YEZ?
These cookies. Who needs the Girl Scouts with these around?
Break out the slow cooker, this soup looks DY-NO-MITE.
Gilmore Girls fans, Netflix is collaborating with 200 cafés and bakeries across the country to recreate a Luke’s Diner pop-up—complete with pie and obscene amounts of coffee, no doubt!
This elementary school is onto something…
Who’s ready to look in the mirror to see their true self?? EEK. This system of identifying what type of stressor you are/stress you react to could be compared to identifying your personality type with ennegram. OH MY GOD! I am totally The Artist! I’m not sure I can handle the truth.
5 free Chrome add-ons to make life easier. I’m downloading ALL OF THEM.
We all need a little more self-love in our lives. This post about taking yourself out on a date is very Carrie Bradshaw-esque and something we should all do more of.
31 Movies & TV Shows Coming to Netflix in October. Ahem. Justin Timberlake, Breakfast at Tiffany’s AND Titanic? Be still my heartthrob beatin’ heart!
Yeah! It’s fall and that means TV is back from weirdo summer scheduling hell. If you haven’t caught up on Stranger Things on Netflix, you’re missing the boat. Regular TV? I was pretty impressed with Designated Survivor because Keiffer Sutherland is finally in a role where he actually DOESN’T know it all, and This Is Us has been pretty promising with the flashback situation and family disfunction so far. For funny, Last Man On Earth and Modern Family (natch) just keep on pleasing my little family.
On the market for some new digs? Count Dracula’s castle is up for sale — and just in the nick of time for Halloween.
or, for your sleeping pleasure…
West Elm is opening a line of hotels. YES, I am serious.
Confession. As a kid, even into college, I never used to brush my teeth before bed. And worse. Lately I’ve totally been slacking at night because I’m just. too. tired. Really? What? This is what I need: Tips for getting back into a daily habit once you’ve stopped.
19 affordable jackets and coats for fall (love #1 and #14).
I bought these gold dipped earrings a few weeks ago and I LOVE them. They’re small, sweet and they’re not very expensive so good for gifting.
and more footwear…
Got my eye on these open toe booties.
Oh hi toes! I just picked up this nail color (how great is the name?)
Sweater weather. It’s totally a thing when I’m working all day in my office and freezing my tush off, and I want this comfy cardigan.
Recipes I Pinned This Week
With all of the comfort foods, pumpkin, and apple treats that are flooding the Internet these days, it’s hard not to get excited about the season changing! Here are three awesome looking apple recipes I’ve saved to my Pin boards this week, that I totally think you should pin as well.
Apple Cider Cinnamon Rolls
If these cinnamon rolls don’t immediately make you want to rush to the nearest apple orchard, or make you feel all giddy inside about fall, then I don’t even know!
Bacon Apple Cheddar Pie
This classic American pie gets a special, porky upgrade!
Autumn Apple Cake
Exactly what you want to make following an afternoon of apple picking.
