Hello and happy Friday.
It seems like we live in an “everybody who plays gets an award” world—even foods. Yesterday was National Banana Bread Day. I mean, this list of food holidays is a fun gimmick and all, but sometimes the obscure can become a bit much—Lima Bean Respect Day anyone? As luck would have it, I had a passel of over-ripe bananas just waiting to be mashed and baked into my fave banana bread recipe and so a happy banana bread day it was.
For the past few months, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Instagram with my scrolling finger seemingly cemented in the hate category. The algorithm makes zero sense to me. I want to see stuff when it goes live, not two days later when IG decides to share it with me. And this competition for TikTok’s market share is totally annoying. So I stopped posting for a few months and I only recently went back to perusing those I follow. And this week was the first time I’ve made more than one random post to my feed in a long time. That’s why I 100% echo the sentiments of this –> Forget “Casual Instagram.” I Miss the Unhinged Instagram of 2012. Who else feels it too? Hey Meta, let IG be what we used to love.
I am always wowed when an artist converts everyday objects in public spaces into something others can enjoy. Finding beauty in the cracks and turning them into public art is what this artist does so expertly. So frigging cool. It’s just another example how anyone can provide a jolt of joy by doing even the smallest things.
Who isn’t looking for something new to watch on the tele? We sat down to this new-to-me rom-com from 2011 and were happily entertained. What more can one ask for? How about this list of the best romantic comedies of all-time. Cozy up!
In our society (and the U.S. in particular) there’s so much pressure and emphasis placed on excelling early in life. Life isn’t a race, it’s a party is such a good reminder that YES! It’s okay to embrace our own unique paths, not beat ourselves up if we haven’t ticked certain boxes by an unrealistic timeline we or our society has set for us, and just enjoy the ride. Also, I love seeing the list of accomplished humans who found their success later in life.
