Hello friends and happy Friday.
We rang in the new year with champagne cheers, oysters with mignonette sauce, king crab legs, steamed shrimp, and baked artichokes.
Not to be outdone, we followed NYE’s nibbler’s delight with a killer NYDay brunch with bloody marys, classic eggs bene (because there was no more crab!), and my dad’s famous breakfast potatoes. My new year celebration couldn’t have been any better. I hope yours was fab too.
A few things rattling around in my brain this week:
This week I’ve had three crowns replaced. Not the crown that is often just shy of slipping from my head, but the crowns IN my head. Specifically my mouth. Did you know that people with gum disease are twice as likely as others to die from a heart attack and three times as likely to have a stroke? It’s true, good dental health is just as important as exercising and eating right. (P.S. I love my dentist.)
I am all about paying it forward and being generous with both time and donations. You get what you give! So when I came across the article Paying for a Stranger’s Coffee Is Not the Kind Act You Think It Is I was sort of taken aback. But after reading it, I totally abide and agree. And yes, my daughter worked at Starbucks and she def says it is true.
I’m still on my social media sabbatical where I’m spending less time on my phone and more time living life thanks to a preview of this 5-day digital detox challenge that’s helped cut my mindless scrolling by more than 25%. Even better, it’s free.
Just like what seems like every year, I’m vowing to eat more vegetables and less meat. I picked up this cookbook at Costco (but I can’t find it on their site so I’ve linked to Amazon) and it’s one of the best veg-centric cookbooks I’ve yet to see. I’m reading it like a novel. Can’t wait to get cooking from it.
I was beyond sad and literally stricken to hear of the passing of national treasure and icon Betty White. NOOOOO! She was so close to becoming a Centurian! Here are some of her best moments and quotes and 15 things you might not have known about her. I love #10.
This kid is awesome. You can’t watch and not smile, esp when he proves that taking a shot in the dark can totally pay off.
Which leads to the only game I play on my phone because it actually makes my brain have to work. And work hard!
For me, the new year is when I feel most inspired to do my “spring clean.” Anyone else? This list of 5 things you should clean this winter is a good place to start.
Candles inspired by your favorite types of movies. I’ve made lighting a candle a part of my “it’s time to work ritual.” These would make work a bit more fun.
It’s time for us to start getting dressed again and switching out of our sweats and into real clothes. These jeans with this top and these booties fit that middle ground of dressing comfortably but with a fashion-forward edge.
Kitchen cabinet color inspo. I’m all for the dark look but will they stand the test of time? Even so, can we just take a sec to appreciate that gorgeous kitchen in the first photo?
This Vietnamese-inspired chicken salad looks divinely healthy and easy enough to make.
Whenever I dress lettuce with this salad dressing I feel like I’m eating in Paris.
These hot honey chicken wraps make a lunch that’s way beyond basic.
So much flavor happening in this salmon dish.
One of my intentions for the year is to drink more hot tea (this is a current fave) and I’m thinking this hot ginger tea is another one for my must-sip list.
I am such a Meyer lemon devotee and this cake is doing lemon right. And if you don’t have a silicone bundt pan, they’re worth getting.
If you’re a fan of the original OG, you’ll most likely be a fan of this salad. And BTW, what happened to the never-ending pasta bowl anyway???
I’m geeking out over these Greek chicken pitas.
This savory rice dish makes a meal and is the perfect recipe to break out of the same old dinner cooking rut.
Shrimp + pesto + pasta = all the dinner goodness.
Farro is one of my very favorite grains and stars in this salad’s healthy glow show.
Air fryer recipe alert: Dumplings!
Spaghetti squash crust pizza just might take cauliflower crust pizza to the healthier than pizza pie hole!
And when you don’t know what to make for a healthy breakfast, here you go.
Enjoy your weekend and cheers to a grand week ahead. Now get into the kitchen and cook something good!
