Hey, hey, hey and happpppy Friday!
This is the last weekend before my little baby’s final first day of school. She’s a high school senior. How? How? How?
My daughter has always seemed older to me than she was. Maybe it’s because she’s my only child, or maybe because she was tall and obedient and rarely threw a fit. But today, I see a young woman who IS grown up. Confident. Responsible. Caring. Self-assured. She’s no longer a child and is quickly evolving from teenager to adult. And I’m surprisingly okay with that. In fact, I’m almost ready. Sure, I absolutely yearn for the days when she was my captive audience as I drove her to friends houses and all those soccer and basketball practices, and for the days when she had to join us on family outings or jaunts because she couldn’t stay home alone. But now, she’s ready. And so are we.
This being her last school year at home, I’m going to do my best to savor the moments, try not to hover, and let her fly free. Our family mantra whenever any one of leaves the house is, “Make good choices.” I can’t save her from every mistake, nor do I want to. I can only teach her the best I can and she will have to take it from there. Because how else do we learn but to have a few failures to learn from. It ain’t easy, but it is what it is. Ah, parenthood.
But first, it’s time for this week’s Friday Faves.
This week’s most delicious dinner of the week is pictured above and included:
- My husband’s amazing grilled swordfish
- My favorite grilled zucchini with feta instead of goat cheese
- And of course, burrata caprese salad with some cantaloupe tossed on too.
