Happy Friday friends!
In This Post
Who has recovered from last week’s 3 day labor day weekend? I know, me neither. But now that the pool is officially closed, I’m raising my hand in my best Queen Elizabeth impression to wave in a warm hello to fall.
We started off the weekend by FINALLY making it to our first baseball game of the summer to see our local Salt Lake Bees play. I’m telling you, it’s such a beautiful view it makes it hard to keep your eye on the ball.
We were invited by Smith’s Marketplace with a few other local bloggers (Maria, Becky, Deb and Holly) and their little baseball loving families. I gotta say, it was a great way to start the weekend.
The following day, we headed east to savor an impromptu staycation getaway just 30 minutes from our front door when we spent the weekend at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, UT. Yep. You bet I feel lucky.
Cooler mountain air. Chilling at the fire with my man and the best dirty martini, a spontaneous checker tournament my husband schooled me in, jumbo-size Jenga games on the lawn with Smudge and all the delicious eats (their famous Sunday brunch) and drinks (amazing bloody Mary’s to sip along with that brunch) that I could pack into this food loving body. We came away rested, fat and happy.
This week I’ve been in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina soaking up a whole lot of sightseeing, shrimp & grits, and low country goodness I’ll be sharing with you soon. Man, the people here are so friendly! I almost feel like I’m back home in Utah.
But until then, let’s dig into this week’s list of Friday Faves!
Even if you don’t go to the county fair, you can still eat all of this.
Just about all of us can while away some serious hours in IKEA, but did you know you can host your own dinner party there? Well, if you live in London, that is! How fun would this be?

I don’t know where to begin – I’m so jealous! I used to live in Park City – my mother still lives there. I graduated from PCHS in 1973, and oh how Park City has changed. But whenever we visit, we always go to brunch at the Stein Eriksen lodge. Love love that area. Try the spa there, if you haven’t already. Salt Lake City is still such a beautiful city, too. And we often stay at the Grand Summit and I’ve gone to many farmer’s market at the bottom there. So much fun. I miss the art festival in PC, but I now it’s gotten huge. Fun post!

This fall, I’m looking forward to spending some serious armchair time with Ina Garten’s new book, “Cooking for Jeffrey,” and also “At Balthazar,” a behind-the-scenes examination of my favorite restaurant on earth. Did you know that if you are a woman dining alone, they serve you free champagne? It is one of life’s most blissful pleasures, lunch alone at Balthazar! I’ve done it twice in my life and hope to have a chance to do it again. Thank you for a great post today!

I just have to chime in on the Minnesota State Fair – I grew up bordering MN/WI and the Minnesota State Fair was ALWAYS a highlight. Since moving to VA I’ve had some serious State Fair withdrawals and once in your life YOU MUST go to the MN State Fair. Not only is the food incredible (so many of my friends worked at different places for those two weeks summer after summer!), there are free/not free concerts galore, the hill that has every John Deere tractor, camper, and thing on wheels to check out, animals of every kind (and you can witness births!) and THE DAIRY BARN- where you can see the latest dairy princess sculpted in butter and have a delicious milkshake. I’m desperately missing it and I always thought I was just bias as to how good it was, but you are not the first person to post a link of it this year and I’m feeling pretty proud of my roots!!! Go Midwest!!
Thanks for the thoughtful comment about your memories Simone! I can’t imagine anyone not loving a trip to the county or state fair!

Where do you buy your succulents?! I’ve tried Lowes & Home Depot with no luck.
Maureen
They are beautiful. Good question.
I’ve gotten a few at Home Depot, but I usually get them at one of my favorite local orchid shops in Salt Lake City, Orchid Dynasty.
