TGIF.
Heck to the yeah, it’s Friday, and there may not be another day of the week more in need of a point of diversion than this one. Unless of course it’s M, T, W or TH.
If you’re like most, Fridays call for a little escapism, a few nuggets of inspiration to coax you into the weekend and take your mind off the boss-lady who expects you to stick around the office ‘til 4:59 p.m. securely camped out at your desk even though the last moments of summer are tenuously escaping your death grip on fun.
Most every Friday I share my round-up list of Friday Faves, webby resources to inspire, motivate or take me away.
This week I’m sharing some of my favorite fellow blogging listers. You may know of some, or maybe even all of them, but what I really want to know is who is YOUR favorite blog list maker? Maybe it’s someone from this list but hopefully someone new we can all explore. Lead us to their blogs in the comments below.
Here they are, my top 8 destinations for getting away from it all.
1. Yes and Yes / Web Time Wasters
If I have time for just one blog to visit and know I’ll come away being both devastatingly inspired while transplanted into another dimension, it’s thanks to Sarah’s Web Time Wasters posted every Sunday (not Friday) on Yes and Yes. Smartly written and so well rounded in her selection, she easily teases us into finding out more about how to entertain in an apartment or 33 unusual tips to becoming a better writer and please don’t miss the video of real life Ukranian Barbies. Sarah always guides me to exactly the spot she hoped: gloriously wasting time on the web.
Bonus: Bored? You shouldn’t be. From reasonable to ridiculous, Sarah’s created the ultimate bucket list of new things to try. Now it’s your turn.
2. Shutterbean / I Love Lists, Friday
Close your eyes and you too can see Tracy “saying” on Twitter in her best Oprah voice, “It’s I Love Lists, FRIIIIDDAAAY.” And the onslaught of clicks to her blog Shutterbean begin. Just like Oprah, Tracy seems to have the pulse on everything cool, on trend and in the know. I’m constantly wondering, “How’d she find this stuff, I mean does she just surf the web ALL DAY LONG?” So jealous I tell you. With a designer’s eye and a heart full of motherly love, Tracy starts her Love Lists with an always inspiring photo/picture from her week and then shares links like why to take self portraits of your feet (Tracy, were they reading your mind?), 25 food trends for 2013 and 11 things every parent should know.
3. How Sweet It Is / Currently Crushing, Tuesday Things, Monthly Favorites
This isn’t a weekend list. It’s the motherload of lists and if you’re looking for any style of inspiration, How Sweet It Is is your place. With her characteristic self-deprecating humor and girlfriend-in-the-know chatter, Jessica continually wows me with the prolific amount of content she churns out each and every week. Girl, when do you sleep? Jessica’s Currently Crushing list of recipe links each Saturday is just the first course before she serves up How Sweet It Is’ Tuesday Things list, where matrimonial stories of life with her husband are interspersed with chalkboard nail sets to 25 things more exciting than the Royal Baby to undeniably decadent chicken and waffle melts, giving me a fantastic reason to claw my way to hump day.
Bonus: For a list of general musts, don’t skip How Sweet It Is Monthly Favorites list, chock full of beauty, fashion, fun and beloved Jessica randomness.
4. Ambitious Kitchen / Weekend Favorites
With an unwavering and faithful following akin to the great and powerful Oz, when Monique says, “Check out this link,” her readers ask, “How many times?” Ambitious Kitchen’s Weekend Favorites include what she describes as, “delicious favorites, beauty picks, music you need to hear and other random stuff thrown in.” Keep throwing it in Monique because I can’t wait to know what’s behind the curtain: from Avo and Eggs to your next manicure to which food blog you’re reading now. With just one click, all is revealed and I’m on my way down the yellow brick road.
5. Design Crush / Happy Weekend
If FoodieCrush had a sister from another mother that looked at design the way I look at food, her name would be Kelly at Design Crush. With a day job as a freelance graphic designer, Kelly curates and shares DIY projects, fashion inspiration and overall design tips the typophile/design nerd in me totally geeks out over. Her Happy Weekend series touts everything from haunting portraits of refugees holding their most prized possession to a ten foot birthday candelabra to biodegradable utensils in the shape of vegetables. All presented in an arty design.
Bonus: Don’t miss Kelly’s mix tape series to put the groove in your weekend.
6. Iowa Girl Eats / Friday Favorites
Thanks to pics accompanying Iowa Girl Eats’ list of Friday Favorites (nearly 100 of them!), the enticement factor jumps twofold with each link Kristen chooses. The curated list centers mainly on crushingly mouth watering food pics with a smattering of decor, fashion and puppy pics. What’s not to like? With each item tagged as a “favorite” theme, Kristen shares her favorite funnies: 15 cute and funny kid notes, favorite licks: Cucumber Watermelon Popsicles and favorite finds: Cuppow Bnto Jar Lunchbox Adapters and much, much more. This is one list that always leaves me satisfied.
Bonus: Look for new content to feature a sprinkling of babyness from this new mom. Congrats Kristen!
7. Kitchen Confidante / 5 Little Things
Not only are Liren’s recipes consistently delicious and her photography cleanly styled in the most elegantly-contemporary-calming way, she contributes her 5 cents every Friday with Kitchen Confidante’s 5 Little Things. A quick wrap-up from the week around the web, Liren’s shares webby stuff from Disney princesses on Instagram to oodles of noodles, and always sets me up for the tumble into a welcome weekend unwind.
8. A Cup of Jo / Weekend Lists
There’s a reason that A Cup of Jo has such widespread popularity, in fact there are a lot more than just one. Joanna is one of the greats in blogging and a list of great lists like how to do anything, wouldn’t be complete without hers. The site consistently delivers a totally entertaining glimpse at nearly every niche in blog land: parenting, fashion, food, travel and relationships. Yet even while making a dominant mark on the blogging scene and reaching nearly 4 million readers a month (!), her posts, advice and favorites lists sound more like your loyal GF dishing on her Friday Weekend Lists with lovely one-off nuggets of diversion.
Bonus: Joanna delivers tons of other lists for list lovers like me including the best of the best recipes, the essential gifts for new parents and 10 favorite NYC restaurants. Get ready to be sucked into the lovely vortex of A Cup of Jo.
I’d love to hear who your favorite list making blogs are. Food, tech, fashion, family gear, whatever. Add it to the comments below and give us all something new to discover this weekend.

Sometimes it’s so difficult to keep up with all those new and gorgeous blogs out there, it’s nice when someone acts as a curator to give you some guidance.
You know I love your favorite posts and this is no exception, thanks for some great inspiration. Hope you’re doing well, Heidi!
Lisa {AuthenticSuburbanGourmet}
Heidi – you picked some great blogs (and some new ones for me to check out – thank you) I was happy to see Liren in your list – we are personal friends and she luckily only lives about 30 minutes from me. Love your blog (it was great to meet you in person at the Dole event) – keep up the great job!
