Happy Frightening Friday Friends!
In This Post
It’s not often that Halloween actually gets to be celebrated on a Saturday and I’m betting most everyone will be making the most of the occasion by the light of the slightly waning full moon. A full moon. Seems like it should be a sign, shouldn’t it?
After deciding NOT to dress up this year, my husband and I took a selfie, see above. Looking good, for an old married couple, don’t you think?
Last week I spent a few days basking in blogging inspiration, aspirations, and action. A group of us gathered at gorgeous Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT to learn, listen, share and eat everything within arm’s reach over the three days. You can see more behind the scenes on Instagram when you check out the hashtag #BBRetreat.
I’ll be sharing more from the retreat soon, including some scrumptious new recipes, but until then let’s take a look at October and wonder where in the heck it went?
Halloween is here and our neighbors can attest that our house is a horror-filled, spider-laced spookgazm. Both my mom and mother-in-law wondered if we were having a party. “No, we just like to decorate.” Maybe I’ll have to share a tour of terror for next year.
What you may have missed with FoodieCrush this week…

Let’s dig into this week’s Friday Faves
This week I’m handing over the favorite-ist reigns to a few of the bloggers who joined me at last weekend’s retreat. Take it away ladies!
Kristin from Iowa Girl Eats
A friend recently recommended this book to me and I read the whole thing in about 4 hours. If you find yourself saying yes more than you’re saying no, feeling pulled in a hundred different directions, doing 10 things at once and none of them well, having your time dictated by anyone other than you, READ THIS BOOK. One of my biggest takeaways was constantly asking myself, what’s important NOW? Like, right this very second? Then doing that. :)
Maria from Two Peas and Their Pod
I can’t get enough of this, it makes my house smell so good! And of course, I’m obsessed with this show.
Monique from Ambitious Kitchen
My favorite thing = Rosehip Seed Oil. I put it on under my makeup everyday and before I go to bed a night. The result is super soft & smooth skin that glows. It’s definitely become my beauty secret! **I can vouch for Monique’s amazing skin!~Heidi
Andie of Can You Stay for Dinner
You must read this post. It is intense, deeply personal, vulnerable–and necessary. I hope it goes viral.
And, Slumber Party with Alie and Georgia podcast. These women are hysterical, wickedly honest, and so freely themselves that we should all take notes. It’s truly like a slumber party with your two best friends, complete with ghost stories and weird questions. I love it.
Laura of Blogging Over Thyme
One of my favorite things lately that I’ve discovered is If This Than That. It’s helped me figure out how to post my Instagram photos directly on Twitter. It creates a different bitly link, but in general, I’ve found it to be a useful tool for automating certain things, keeping my inbox more organized, or working more easily with Evernote. You can basically create any “recipe” for your work flow, but they have countless ones that have already been created. Best of all, it’s free!
Kathryn of Cookie and Kate
I’m loving my new kitchen shelving from Ikea. It’s not very pretty, but now I can see all of my pantry ingredients!
Also, THIS HAIRBRUSH! Someone recommended it at the retreat and it made brushing through my tangly hair a breeze. Serious game changer.
Kelly from Just a Taste
I would say that King Arthur Flour’s Sparkling Sugars are my latest obsession. They come in a rainbow of colors and add color, shine and crunch to cookies and pies. Obsessed!
Liz from The Lemon Bowl
With all of my traveling, this has been my favorite thing. I showed it to Kristen and she bought one right away. Must make:
Liren of Kitchen Confidante
I’ve really been enjoying this line of makeup, but I also couldn’t go anywhere without this bag. It’s perfect for traveling or using for the gym.
Ali of Gimme Some Oven
I’ve shared this app with everyone I know. Thumbs up for personalized emojis!
Thanks ladies! Now, here’s a few more faves I’m sharing, too.
My daughter’s orthodontist…What a Halloween dream team. He dressed up as Willy Wonka and the rest of the staff as oompa loompas. Now that’s the spirit!
The most popular costumes of 2015. Did yours make the cut? (pizza rat rules!)
And for you procrastinators (raising hand)…
28 last minute Halloween costumes. My husband was thinking of going as #7. Really? I mean, REALLY???
We’re going a little crazy around here with the Halloween haunt and this guy ended up finding his way home with us. We did have to add some alterations to his eyes to make him extra scary (X X) and match my man’s band #bigface.
Step back Jack! Don’t forget to set your clocks back on Saturday night! 5 things you need to know about Daylight Savings Time.
The exclamation mark, once reserved for expressing joy or excitement, now simply marks baseline politeness. !!!!!
An easy GIF maker. Say it IS SO!
What’s your Textonality? I can’t quite page mine, maybe I’m a mix.
More than Meets the Spooky Eye(s)
If you’re in need of a last minute plan, here are a few easy Halloween snacks to warn your guests to behave, because you’ve got an eye on them.
Silly Apple Bites
These things are so dang cute the kids won’t even realize they’re missing out on the sugar high.
Halloween Candy Bark
Candy. Nuts. Potato chips. Let your cravings be your guide.
Monster Cocktail Stirrers
Scary sweet bites don’t have to be relegated to cookies and treat. Cocktails anyone?
Gooey Monster Cookies
Don’t let the rainbow colors fool you, these guys are scary!
Halloweeño Jalapeño Mummy Poppers
A little dough, a little cream cheese and eyeballs popping out all over.

That food is really amazing however the joke is really funny. I also think that croissants would be better with chocolate.
Monique @ Ambitious Kitchen
Agree to what Laura said! Also, Rosehip seed oil = everything! Thank you for the compliment as well. :)
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme)
