Hello hello and what a happy Friday it is!
We’re here. We’re alive. We have money for food on the table and an internet to scan for the links we love. There’s so much big, heart wrenching stuff going on out there that focusing on the little things that matter are a real source of joy.
We’re nearly two weeks into the new year and I’m still committed to my NY resolve and eating more plants (this avo toast has been breakfast every.single.day), getting more sleep, and keeping my inner and outer critic in check.
Life is a work in progress. Last week I talked about how I’ve always believed I was a good multi-tasker until I was called out as simply being a procrastinator.
Well, yesterday I read this article that is 100% how I feel 99% of the time. Decision fatigue, where “people’s brains get worn out by the necessity of being decisive and exercising restraint, usually at work.”
Is decision fatigue a real thing? I 100% think so, because I live it, and too often I feel just like Gloria who is quoted about completing personal chores, “Instead of doing it, I’m thinking about all the times I should have been. So I end up kind of catatonic over not doing stuff instead of doing that stuff.” Hand to heart, that’s me.
It’s another supporting reason why I chose my word of 2019: DO IT.
So today I’m setting a timer to get my Friday Faves post done in a record amount of time, with focus and my head down to get.the.job.done. For you readers, it’s a quick read to breeze through these Friday Faves links and maybe click on one or two. For me to compile the post, it typically takes 1-2 hours of research during the week, then another 4-6 hours to write, discover more faves, add links, proofread, edit and re-write, and then wonder if I missed something awesome.
Today I’m giving myself 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the post, and when the time is up, that’s going to be it.
Let’s see how far I get, shall we? But enough about me, let’s dig into this week’s list of Friday Faves. YAY!
This story absolutely warmed my heart and broke it at the same time. I love dogs.

So this is claimed to be the single best way to reduce clutter around the house, but is it just adding more plastic to the trash heap? Thoughts? I mean, I do decant some, but not to this extreme (for all my condiments too?)
But I am liking these glass canisters — a little spendy so I need to shop around.

Rhonda
Seriously? Here’s the recipe. Toast and butter a piece of bread. Slice some avocado on it. Poach an egg and put it on top. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and back/white sesame seeds.

I agreeeeeee where’s the recipe!?

I can totally relate to decision fatigue and am convinced it is a thing. I’ve noticed it particularly in friends that are going through a remodel. One of the things I’ve found that helps me with the chore overwhelm is choosing one to do on a day when I’m not exercising (priorities) and if any others get done it’s a bonus!
Rachel
Whoa! The live listen feature on the AirPods?!? Blowing my mind!
Also love this: “We’re here. We’re alive. We have money for food on the table and an internet to scan for the links we love. There’s so much big, heart wrenching stuff going on out there that focusing on the little things that matter are a real source of joy.”
We were driving to the allergist yesterday for the kids annual appointment, and E was saying how she wished she didn’t have food allergies, and wished she didn’t have to see the allergist, and wished she could eat the birthday treats at school (that last one pulled at my momma heart strings!). We acknowledged that yeah…it stinks…but then focused on what we can eat, what we can do, and how much good we have in our lives. I encouraged her to focus on those things, that life could be far worse, and that we’ll be happier if we focus on the positive…and I love your reminder to do the same.
Longest comment ever! Thanks for the pizza chicken link love! xoxo

Heidi,
Your Friday Faves inspires me! I love it! You’re witty, pithy, insightful, and playfully opinionated :). Your blog was the first one I ever subscribed to and it’s still the first one I look forward to reading every week. Know that for every minute you put into it, I’m joyfully spending time reading and cooking from it!
