Happy Friday my friends! It’s spring! And I officially held the evidence in my hand and then stuffed them all in my shopping cart before anyone else could buy them.
Guys, I am ridiculous. There I was in the middle of the veggie aisle at Smiths Marketplace shopping for ingredients for some upcoming recipes when I let out an audible squeal of delight as if I’d just been presented the keys to a new car won in a contest. Seriously. People stopped and looked to see what I was so excited about.
There they were in all their glory. CANDY CANE STRIPED BEETS! I know. I’m insane. But I NEVER see them in the store and always have to wait for the farmers market to roll around, and even then it’s a crapshoot. I promise myself I’ll plant them every year, and then I don’t, (I’m ordering some today!) so to see them in the store left me feeling all giddy.
But the staring didn’t stop there. Oh no. They kept staring as I stood next to the seafood display cases and asked if I could use their white tile wall to take a photo of my little ruby-striped treasures. Luckily, since I’m there just about every.single.day. they recognized that girl who is always taking pictures of food in the store.
Really. I need to find a hobby other than cooking.
On that note, I was totally honored (and totally surprised) to be included in this list of foodies influencing others on Instagram and Facebook. If you’re looking to follow some great bloggers and influencers, this is a great spot to find them.
But back to those beets! What am I gonna make? If you have any suggestions of what you’d like to see, pop them in the suggestions below.

My almost 13-year-old informed me she had just finished watching 13 Reasons Why before I even realized it had been released. Oh great. I’m now rewatching it with her, and while the series is getting both positive and negative reaction due to the content, I feel the subject matter is something we all need to be more informed about, and talking about, whether you have kids or not. 13 conversations to have about 13 Reasons Why.
