Happy Friday my friends!
According to my advent calendar, the Christmas countdown is on and things are getting fast and furious. The tree is up. The presents are bought. The presents STILL need to be wrapped, but hey! That’s what weekends are for, along with some volunteerism mixed in.
Two years ago I felt like my daughter needed a little philanthropy in her life and to help others during the holidays so she’d appreciate all she is so lucky to have. We volunteered with the Utah/Nevada Dairy Council and Smith’s Food and Drug to create a one-day donation event we called Santa’s Milk Drive.
My daughter and her 10 year old friends and other volunteers were in the aisles asking customers to donate, running back and forth loading gallons of milk in shopping carts. It was awesome and they did such a good job (see it here), because who can say no to a kid in a cow hat? And I can’t believe how little they all look from just 2 years ago!
The day resulted in over 200 gallons of milk donated to the Utah Food Bank and everyone was thrilled with the results.
But we’re just getting started…
Did you know milk is the LEAST DONATED grocery store item across the nation??
That’s why this drive is so important and why we’re back, but with a way bigger impact this year because in addition to what we raise in store and online, Smith’s has generously committed to donating $5000 worth of milk to the Utah Food Bank as part of our drive.
You can help too! And it’s totally simple to do.
Contribute to Santa’s Milk Drive by donating a gallon of milk (the most under donated store-bought item across the nation) as part of the Great American Milk Drive with Feeding America. Just one gallon of milk is all we’re asking for.
After entering your zip code, that gallon of milk will be delivered to your own local food bank, keeping the charity where it’s needed most: in your own community.
It’s really that simple.
If you’re a local to the SLC area, join us this Saturday at Smiths Marketplace at 3215 Valley Street (3300 South off Wasatch BLVD and I-215 by REI) from 12 pm to 4 pm to make your milk purchase that will be delivered straight to the Utah Food Bank. There will be milk and cookie samples, giveaways and oh, sooooo much more :)
We’ll be there with our Santa hats and Got Milk shirts, ready to load your milk in the refrigerated truck to head to the food bank to help everyone who needs a little milk with their cookies.
You can also follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #santasmilkdrive.
But until then, let’s dig into this week’s list of Friday Faves!
