Happy Friday friends of FoodieCrush!
In This Post
If you have kids in school, you probably have a long weekend vacation ahead of you for President’s Day. And if you don’t, well here’s your notice: Monday is President’s Day. So there you go.
Here it is, mid-February, and according to Al Roker’s weatherman, nearly the whole U.S. is in a heat wave. Here in SLC we’re tipping the barometer in the mid-50s. IN FEBRUARY! And it’s all giving me a serious case of spring fever. My challenge? I can’t decide whether to get out and enjoy this change of weather’s pace, or focus on straightening, organizing, and throwing out half of the crap in my house in a tornado of spring cleaning.
Or maybe get out and get my raised beds ready for planting. And pansies! I noticed my neighbor has already planted a field of pansies! That should definitely be on my blush of color list.
So while Smudge is looking forward to a 4-day weekend of sleeping in, languishing about, and hanging out with her friends, she’s going to be surprised with a few spring cleaning hootie duty chores added to her list. I’m a firm believer in kids doing chores around the house so that they grow up with a firm grasp on how to complete a job well done (like my mom taught me!) and don’t grow up to be complete slobs, and here’s why. I also believe they shouldn’t be compensated or rewarded for chores, that it’s simply their part of being in the family. What are your thoughts on this?
Okay then. You’ve helped me decide. I’m definitely going to be in AND outside this weekend. How can I not? But the bigger question is, will it be doing this …
Or this…
Locals in Utah often boast of days like these warm-weathered, spring-like conditions where they can ski in the mountains in the morning then come down to the valley for golf in the afternoon. It’s one of the perks of living in such a great state like this. And this weekend I’m going to do my best to prove it can be done because I’ve been around this place long enough to know that Utah’s spring weather is sneaky, crafty and can fool us in a heartbeat into thinking we should put the snow shovels away. But we’re not out of the winter woods yet.
Ah almost-spring. You get me going.
But enough about me, how about digging into this week’s list of Friday Faves!
In case you were wondering, here are the 2017 James Beard Awards restaurant and chef semifinalists (AKA, the Academy Awards for chefs).

Simultaneously wanted to laugh and cry while reading this.
Loved this post on morning routines.

I read and heard so much the past few years about how much meditating helps create a better day. This is inspiring me to put it into action, and this app is going to help me get started.

This is such a pretty dress for spring.
So now that I have an issue with my achilles, flip flops for summer are O.U.T. I am so bummed. So, I need to find some shorter wedges, something with an arch. These look pretty cute and are on my possibility list.
Okay, if you know me you know I need this t-shirt. :)
This cute tank dress should be added to my shopping cart.
and then…
I’d add these racerback bra clips to make my existing ones work—because bras are expensive!
Love this tray — bring on the cocktails!
This eye shadow palette is on everyone’s spring must have list. Okay, added it to mine too.
20 chic hairstyles for spring. Layers and beach waves are still the thing.
I received this hand lotion for a birthday gift, and it is my new favorite. Smells heavenly and so moisturizing. Thanks Maria!
I love giving these as gifts for girlfriends. And I was lucky to get one too! Thanks Lisa!
