Hey there everyone, it’s Hayley here, filling in for Heidi, who is lying on a sandy white Florida beach, soaking up some rays (you go girl!) I’ve gotta say, I’m a little envious, because I’m surrounded by a different kind of sea — a sea of boxes, because we are moving in a couple of weeks. And boy am I glad it’s Friday, because this girl needs a gin and tonic!

It’s been a crazy week. Monday afternoon I found myself standing in the muggy woods in north Durham, N.C. with my dad, sifting through piles and piles of old, reclaimed wood. We’re lucky, because he’s building us the coffee table of our dreams, similar to this one (hence the wood scouting).
Looking at wood felt to me what I imagine looking at nail polish colors would feel like to most men, but in the back of my mind, I kept picturing the coffee table, like a big glass of water at the end of a finish line. It’s good to have people around who know how to build things.
One of the most fun things about buying a new house (or in our case, a new old house)? Finding things to put in the new old house. We had a recent first trip to Ikea as a married couple and it was a success, and we didn’t want to kill each other! There’s been an absurd amount of scouring Craigslist, eBay and Etsy for Mid-Century Modern furniture and a lot of Pinterest and Apartment Therapy patrolling. This inevitably leads me down a dangerous rabbit hole of Scandinavian fabric patterns, pendant lighting fixtures, and paint colors. So many paint colors.
My only real concern about moving? I want our furry child to be comfortable. She’s a super anxious worry-wart (like her mom), and she’s lived in this house for most of her life, and she doesn’t like change, or boxes, or moving things. Do they make Xanax for doggies?
But enough blabber, here go my Friday Faves for this week!
How adorable is this awesome Sesame Street throwback from 1974?!
I was recently introduced to this RIDICULOUS beer, that doesn’t really taste like beer, but rather the best root beer on the planet. And I’ve been day-dreaming of day-drinking it ever since, and all I want to do is pour it over a glass full of Tahitian Vanilla Bean Gelato, and go to town.
I’ve got a lady crush on Amy Schumer. I think she’s hilarious, so I can’t wait to see this movie!
I’m pining after this mustard yellow sundress like nobody’s business.
Loving this kitchen re-model — the apron front sink, the sea foam cabinets, butcher block counters and bright pink rug — oy! Goals.
This post was beautiful.
I may have watched this trailer 10 times.
Just stumbled upon this really fun site with reproductions of vintage menu art from all over the world and now I want to buy everything!
A moving speech by a courageous woman.
Any Raleigh natives? I’m excited to try Ashley Christensen’s new restaurant!
My dog basically does this to me all the time.
How to put your unused fireplace to use. Our new house has a gorgeous old coal fireplace (too shallow to use), so this is great inspiration (I especially love #1!)
Recipes on my Radar
Classic Cherry Blueberry Pie
This one of the prettiest little pies I’ve seen so far this summer! Also, fun fact, I’ve worked in two different pie shops and my husband is still better at lattice crust than I am.
Bangkok Coconut Curry Noodle Bowls
I’ve been drooling over these all week, can’t wait to make!
Crispy Bacon Waffles with Bourbon Butter and Blueberry Syrup
There are so many good things going on with these waffles!
Happy weekending, folks!

Once I tried curry noodles with shrimp and coconut and it made my day. The recipe is easy. If you have some free time, try cooking it. Oh, the recipe is here cooking . nytimes .com/recipes/1017517-curry-noodles-with-shrimp-and-coconut

I’m with Julie – they do make Xanax for dogs but if you don’t feel like going that far Benadryl works like a charm too! Best of luck with your move and thanks for sharing all the great finds – I also can’t WAIT to see the Amy Schumer movie – she’s the BEST lol:)
Hayley
Whoa, I didn’t know dogs could take Benadryl! Really good to know. And thank you, we are so excited and so ready to move! Also, hoping to see Trainwreck this week — it should be a good reward after all our hard work (or at least a little distraction!) : )

I love reading your blog BUT I really REALLY love Luma. OMG what a sweetheart! And don’t laugh but, yeah they do make puppy prozac. We had to give it to our malamute because he’d go INSANE about 2 hours before a thunderstorm hit. Luma looks pretty chill though….wink
Hayley
Aww, thank you Katee! We love her too, but we’re a little biased. ;) I didn’t realize they actually made puppy prozac, how crazy! And you have a malamute? That’s awesome, I LOVE that breed! I love big, fluffy dogs in general though. :) Luma is petrified of thunder, and even rain. We might need to look into this puppy prozac haha.
Laura (Tutti Dolci)
That pie is just gorgeous, love the lattice top!

That was an awesome post, thanks Hayley! The recipes look wonderful and I did some Pinning. I should add that I live outside of Raleigh and my daughter’s name is Haley so I especially enjoyed reading!
Hayley
Thank you Becky, and how cool that you live outside of Raleigh! I’m just a hop and a skip, over in Greensboro (but I grew up in the Raleigh and Cary area.) And also cool that your daughter’s name is Haley! There aren’t too many of us out in the world, so whenever I hear of another one, I’m always happily surprised. :) Also, I’m glad you enjoyed the post!
Becky
Yep I’m in Garner, and its great to hear from you, thanks for the Note! :-)
Julie
They do actually make xanax for dogs. My recommendation would just be to make sure that there are lots of things (beds, toys, etc.) with Luma’s scent around the new house. It should help ease the change a bit.
Hayley
Thanks Julie, that’s a great idea! I hadn’t thought of that, but it makes total sense! :)
