“So, how’s your weather?”
In This Post
You know how when you talk to people of “a certain age”, the talk always comes back around to the weather? “Can you believe this snow?” “We haven’t had a summer this hot that I can remember.”
And mom, I’m not talking about you, we can still gab about the temperature all I want.
Because I think I may have turned into “that” person.
Just this last week I was talking to a client on the phone, someone who is younger than me even. And what happened? We ended up talking about the dang weather. And then we both started laughing and cajoling ourselves for being so trite.
Nah. I’m blaming my thermostat obsession thanks to the wickedly weird winter we’ve all had.
Whatever it is, my new mantra is no more talking about the weather on la’ blog. That’s what I should have given up for Lent. If I was Catholic. But I’m not. So I’ll give it up forrrrrr…something. P.S. Chatting up eating seasonal is of course excluded.
But even if I am becoming more weather obsessed and craving afternoon naps so I can enjoy my early bird special at 6 p.m., at least I still get out and keep up with the kids.
Like skiing last weekend at Deer Valley Resort here in Park City, UT. I mean, how lucky can one get to have this kind of outdoor rec 20 minutes from my doorstep.
That’s our gaggle of a group above, all keeping up, both young and old, and having a blast. From the 5 year old who led the pack through Oompa Loompa Land and onto Quincy’s Cabin (the tiniest little cabin in the middle of the trees where a stuffed bear lives), to the 50+ year old who’s skiied since he was 5 years old and made sure we all were fed an amazing lunch and emerged with the wild childs all accounted for.
I mean seriously, when you can have a killer salad bar and fish tacos and huge chocolate chip cookies and ski too? It was the best day. To clarify, I had just the salad bar. And maybe a bite or 4 of the cookie.
And that’s what life is all about. To get out and create memories, instead of just talking about the weather. I highly recommend it.
This week there was plenty of fun stuff that crossed my path, and so…happy gawking at this week’s Friday Faves.
This is the best thing I saw all week, how she creates an entire band with just one person…talent beyond.
While Gwynnie and Chris are “consciously uncoupling” my husband and I are “unreservedly intertwined.” Ha! Use this to see what you and your sweetie are in Goop-land.
YES! Butter is back. It must be official because Bittman says it’s so.
I’m a design geek + type geek + very particular about my notebooks. I not only love the simple design of these notebooks, but also the fact that they’re made of recycled paper and comprised of all types of different stock. So much more fun than your average, boring white.

Since I’m such a type geek, I love writing utensils. These pencils from Kate Spade have my eye.
I really liked this interview and her take on how as a woman entrepreneur she gets it all done. Some good tidbits to take home and put into action.

Lawn checkers. Perfect for summer. If it ever gets here.
And now Twitter let’s you add up to 4 pics to each tweet. I’m not sure how I feel about the photos in the timeline thing, I think I’m going to be a late adopter. I say as I post 4 photos…
Things To Tell My Daughter, Volume 1: Top 10 Things You Can Learn From The Fashion Runway is a good read for any mom raising a child. Hell, it’s good for any woman in general.
“5. People judge you by what you wear so know what to wear when. Clothes say so much about who you are as a person: That you are confident or shy, intelligent or not-so-much, creative and imaginative or careful and rule-abiding. Without you saying a word. It’s always good to remember this if you want to make a certain impression.”
Here’s how to get your readers to actually click on your blog post. #5 and the ‘curiosity filter’ is a must to add to your check list every time you hit publish.
I LOVE this ’80’s inspired board. Love’s Baby Soft, Esprit and Battle of the Network Stars. This entire board makes me happy. Tell me about it. Stud. Olivia. She’ll always be the one that I want.

I’m in love with this Cookbook in a Box. Great design, beautiful pics, and bridging online with offline. Brilliant!
Speaking of cookbooks, I bought this one for my husband this week. And now I’ve pretty much taken it over. Go figure.

This week ’round the www I found so many yummy chicken recipes, so naturally, had to share.
Sweet Chili and Soy Baked Chicken
It’s no secret I’m a fan of the chicken thigh and the moist bites it happily supplies. And when they’re bathed in a sticky glaze, everyone at the table turns into goo. Recipe here.
Chicken Enchilada Quinoa Casserole
This is the type of recipe that you make once, eat thrice. Exactly what every busy mom or dad craves on Sunday so March Madness is spent in front of the telly instead of in the kitchen. Recipe here.
Piri Piri Roasted Chicken with Potatoes with Green Chili Dressing
I love the idea of a little dipping sauce alongside crispy baked chicken. And since I’ve never tried a piri piri anything, but am a huge fan of smoked paprika, this looks super good to me. Recipe here.
Black Pepper Rub Chicken Fingers with Greek Yogurt Ranch
Do you have kids? Then you know the drill, every, single, solitary time you go out to dinner it’s chicken fingers on the table for the littles. I think Smudge lived on Chicken Dinosaurs for at least 2 years for dinner. And now I discover this hipped up version that won’t leave the parentals feeling like an adolescent. Unless they want to of course. Recipe here.
Easy Asian Chicken Meatball Stir Fry with Spring Vegetables
Talk about combining 3 of my favorite things!! In order: chicken meatballs, springy green veggies and PONZU. What’s ponzu? A citrus flavored, lighter soy sauce. So amazing. Kinda like this recipe. Recipe here.
Happy weekending. Cook somethin’ good.

Hey there, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your blog in Opera, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer,
it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
Other then that, great blog!
Jennifer @ Seasons and Suppers
Great round-up, Heidi and thanks for including my Piri Piri chicken. We really enjoyed it and you’re right, the dipping sauce was awesome with it!
Emily {Jelly Toast}
Your skiing photos are awesome, Heidi!! What a great list (I need that sweatshirt). Thanks so much for including my board! It’s probably my most favorite to pin to :)
Rebecca {foodie with family}
THOSE ANTLER OUTLETS! Brilliant! Holy cow.
Sorry.
And everything else is lovely, too. I believe I have roughly forty browser tabs open now. ;)

Kiersten @ Oh My Veggies
Thanks for mentioning my book! :) I’ve never been skiing, but I kind of want to go to Deer Valley now just to avail myself of that salad bar. Because: GHERKINS!
Kathy @ Olives & Garlic
This was such a great post to read and all the recipes at the end are fantastic too. Piri Piri roasted chicken is calling my name.
Kate @Almond Butter Binge
I so love your Friday Favorites posts! And I am so happy that Mark Bittman says butter is officially back — I don’t eat a ton of it, but I do eat a good amount of fat, so that’s reassuring. Thank you, brief flirtation with Paleo, for giving me respect for fat and a deep skepticism of refined sugar.
And thank you for that “click factor” article! That’s going to be super helpful for me.

I have never been to Dear Valley, but my brothers have and they love it!! Actually, one of my older brothers has been living PC for the winter. He’s been filming, but he loves the area!
Yet another great Friday Favs, Heidi!! Loving these chicken recipes and thanks for including my fingers!!
Amanda
I love Deer Valley, that place is so great! :) Love those chicken recipes too :)
