Hello and happy Friday!
Who else is feeling a renewed sense of life and living? It’s spring! We’re vaccinated! I am BEYOND grateful my family is vaccinated and able to be around one another without fear. We can go to lunch, hug, plan vacations, and do the stuff we’ve always done. Things are moving into the semi-almost-someday-sooner-than-not-back-to-regular-life box. And I have a giant magic marker ready to place a big fat X and tick that box!
This week I spent several days doing yard work alongside my dear old dad. My dad is a fiend when it comes to yard clean up. I’m not nearly as meticulous, but I find it the monotony of raking and clearing so gratifying. Sure, there’s the symbolism of clearing away dead brush to make way for the new sprouts of spring, but this chore is therapeutic and cleansing for my headspace, and it feels so good to be outside with nature.
Instead of listening to a podcast or music, I raked the ground to the sound, stories, and thoughts spinning their little webs in my head. In the mountain quiet and solitude, I saw the same themes creep back into my brain even when I would tell myself to stop thinking about those things that out of my control. I could plainly see what I’ve been currently obsessing about. Change. Good change, bad change, unknown change…that’s what I’m obsessing over. But then, who doesn’t?
If there’s one thing I wish you all could do this week, it’s to take an hour or more and find solitude with your thoughts. Go for a hike, a walk, a bike ride, or do house work or yard work. Let your mind wander. Lose the distractions. Discover what moves you. You may even get some cleaning done, inside and out.
But first, let’s saddle up to this week’s Friday Faves. Enjoy!
