Hello and happy Friday!
What a week it’s been. A new president, glass ceilings being shattered, social boundaries realigning, and yip, yip…yesterday was my birthday! I’d like to personally thank Katy Perry for her performance and the fireworks display just for my birthday celebration. Granted, her performance was a day early, but I’ll forgive her for the calendar adjustment. (BTW, weren’t they spectacular??!!)
Other than relishing in those itty bitty, teeny tiny moments in history, my birthday was relatively chill. However, I did spend a fair amount of wasted time spiraled down a YouTube rabbit hole watching video after video of how to do makeup on mature skin. Yep. “Mature.” That’s me. And I’m okay with that. Because it means I’m still breathing. And mature sounds so much better than old.
I’m very much ready for this next trip around the sun. Hell, I’d go to Saturn and Jupiter and Neptune too if it would just make things here on earth a little bit better. But! Life is looking up, and I am too. Let’s just get these vaccines injected so we can move onward and upward.
BTW, who else is keeping up with their healthier eating NY goals? One of my fave healthier breakfasts is a mock eggs benedict. It’s basically where the yolks create the hollandaise sauce, and I gotta say, it’s quite satisfying. Here’s everything you need to know about poaching eggs the easy way.
With that, let’s dig into this week’s Friday Faves.

Brilliant Friday Faves this week, Heidi! Greetings again from New Zealand. As an expat American, I am an avid follower of your blog – the amazing recipes, thoughtful spot on commentary and reminders of what is good and honest in food and in life. As a baby boomer and childhood Twinkie fan, I will definitely be making those Hostess Cupcakes! Thanks for keeping it real. Stay safe everyone.
