Hello friends, and happy Friday.
Aaaaand…just when you thought things couldn’t get more crazy in this world of ours, they do. So much for dry January. A few years ago I finally realized alcohol just messes with my sleep, so I’ve yet to imbibe, but I’ve definitely had a few scoops of rocky road. However, I’m keeping to my healthy eating routine by keeping my other meals balanced. BTW, if you haven’t eaten savory veg with breakfast, you’re totally missing out.
The other day I took the dogs for a walk, but I was hungry for breakfast and my to-do list was long. It would take too long to do our regular route. We’d have to make it a short one. As we got to the half way point and I started crossing to the right side of the road toward home, my dog Zoee automatically pulled me to the left to head up the hill and go the usual, longer route. Not even thinking about it, I tugged her leash to the right. We were on our way home. But once again, she pulled me to the left. She didn’t know there was a change of plans. She didn’t know why today would be any different than every other walk we’ve walked.
So I had a choice to make. Either I take the regular route and give up 30 minutes of our walk, or I follow my dogs muscle memory and go the long way.
It wasn’t a hard choice to make. I followed her lead and headed up the hill and we walked our route for another 30 minutes. Did I have the time? Of course I did. I made the time. Did my hunger pains go away? Sheesh, I pretty much forgot about them within the first few steps. We were outside! We were breathing! We were happy! Of course I have time for that.
Finishing what we had set out to do, something as simple as a morning walk, is a reminder that creating the muscle memory of small habits are essential to making lifelong change.
Don’t give in to the doubts, or the voices speaking otherwise. Stick with your intentions and just keep going.
Let’s walk the walk.
But first, let’s take a look at this week’s Friday Faves.
