Hello hello and happy summer.
We’re officially half way through the year and I think it’s safe to say, 2020, we are so over you already.
In years past, this time of summer would come and I’d feel like I had no idea where time went. Not this year. I know exactly where the first half of this year went because it’s day to day monotony has been ground into my core. Sometimes I forget things are weird right now. Sometimes it almost feels like business as usual. But then a wave of reality hits and I get that knot in my husband and all I can do is sigh to my husband, “Oh G. What are we going to do?”
Not knowing when the end is in sight makes it hard to plan anything and everything. And it’s 100% unsettling.
That’s why I’m doing what I can to add a little something different to my days, weeks and months, to take note and be thankful for all the little things I too often don’t appreciate. Long morning walks with the dogs, masked outings to the grocery store, weekend car rides with no destination in mind, sitting on the couch with my daughter’s feet in my lap as we talk and laugh and goof on her dad.
Now is the time to reframe and prioritize things I want to do, instead of listing things I need to do. I have not fewer than 10 lakes I want to visit. I want to clean out my closet—it’s one of the last things on my QT chore list. I want to make a planting chart for our newly re-landscaped yard. I want to spend one on one time with friends (at a distance). I want to go away. I want it all to go away.
Managing my expectations is going to be a big part of how the rest of this summer plays out. I think I’m pretty good on that, because if the first half of the year is any sort of barometer, my expectations are pretty dang low. How about you? What’s on your want to do list?
Before I add more to my own want list, let’s dig into this week’s Friday Faves. Maybe you’ll find more inspo there.
