Hey hey and happy Friday!
I wasn’t sure how last week’s Friday Faves post would be received, so I was thrilled to receive so many positive reader emails and discover a very low unsubscriber count to prove 99.9% of you agree that change and equality for black lives must occur. This past week I’ve spent time listening, observing, and learning so much more of how I can be the best ally I can, in my own life and here on FoodieCrush. I hope you continue your education too.
A few weeks ago, we tested the waters by expanding our tight quarantine circle and hosted a small, outdoor, socially distanced Mother’s Day bbq with my parents and in laws. There were masks but no hugs as I did my best sous chef impersonation by dressing everyone’s favorite garlic burgers to order and dishing out my grandma’s famous potato salad as the only one allowed in the kitchen. As we sat outside and chatted for several hours, it was crazy to all of us that something as simple as an impromptu burger cookout could bring us so much joy. It was the best day I’ve had in a LONG time, even before QT.
That day was yet another reminder that you don’t have to go overboard to make an amazing memory. It’s something I preach all the time, but that afternoon, after weeks of distancing, it was a real-life revelation of how important it is to appreciate the simple times we spend with those we love.
But enough of that, let’s dig into this week’s Friday Faves.
