Hello! And happy Friday with all the faves!
This past week I was on a girls trip with one of my best friends. We beached, we sailed, we ate, we talked and talked and talked some more. It was interesting that more than a few of the people I met on the trip were surprised I had left my husband and daughter at home.
Like, how could my husband step up to the job of being…um…a father?
It’s always been a peeve of mine when the comment is made that fathers are home “babysitting” their children when mom is away. Seriously? It’s not called babysitting. It’s called parenting. It’s called being involved, and being aware of the work that goes into having kids. It’s about being a family unit where we ALL work together.
IMHO in this day and age, there shouldn’t be a question whether either parent isn’t perfectly adept at scheduling the school pick ups, packing lunches, overseeing homework, and in our case, being like my husband who took our daughter shoe shopping for this weekend’s homecoming dance (which BTW he is likely even more capable than me given our family nicknamed him Imelda Marcos years ago.)
Sure, we each take on certain parenting tasks we like more or are better at. But when one of us isn’t able to, I’m beyond happy to know that I have a partner, and Ali has a father, who is just as able and willing as I am to do what it takes to keep this family train clipping along at it’s regular pace. I love you, man.
Okay, enough of standing on that soapbox. Sheesh. You’ll think you’d landed on a parenting blog…
In last week’s Friday Faves post I asked for your input on how/if/why you ready this list. Thank you SO MUCH for the comments and emails with your encouragement. The overall opinion was to keep things the same, and that you appreciated the fact I don’t want to waste your time, or mine. So that’s what we’re going to do. :)
Moving forward, you won’t see many changes here on the old Friday Faves, and I’m continuing to work on keeping things concise just for my own well being. Like I said, we’ll see if I can do it or if I’ll get a case of the babbles, just like my mini rant above.
Welcome to Friday Faves. :) Enjoy!

I loved your opening babble and I pray daily that our countries parents will adhere to this ideology! You have it right, Heidi! I, for one wish you had time for a “parenting blog” and I am 86 years old so this is not coming from a parent, but from one who considers the future of grand and great-grand children. You may need to be cloned! :)
