Hello, hello and happy Friday Faves!
Summer weekends are made for living it up and man, I am doing my best to do my part. Last weekend we made the 1 ½ hour drive to the ultra-glam Wendover, NV (pop. 4,261) where gambling is legal, the concert hall rocks, and it’s all just inches over the border from Wendover, UT (pop. 1,407) where it is not.
Who needs Vegas when you can stop and get a selfie at the Bonneville Salt Flats with flashing casino lights in your sights?
We went with my parents to re-live my 80’s teen love-lorn life and see Air Supply in concert. (Fun fact, Russell Graham is a local in Park City, UT.) I don’t think I quit dancing the entire concert, likely to the chagrin of the people sitting in the row behind me.
But who cares? LIVE A LITTLE PEOPLE! Life’s too short not to get up and dance! So if you ever get the chance, give Wendover a glance, where you too can be two less lonely people in the world.
This weekend we’re heading to the cabin with ELEVEN 14-year-old girls for Smudge’s annual escape-to-the-mountains birthday celebration. Yep, eleven girls. And we love taking them because these girls LOVE this weekend. But then, how could they not being catered to with all the food, all the lake time, all the movies, card games, hiking and star gazing. But mostly to simply spend time just being them with their besties.
But as they get older, I wonder just how much longer they’ll still want to do this weekend away. Who will quit coming? Who will be invited new? And when the boys will start crashing? Luckily, there’s a gate, so take that you sneaky varmints!
I just don’t want them to ever grow up because it’s just gonna get harder from here. I know. I was there. We all were.
So wish us luck this weekend, it’s gonna be a great one, and I hope yours is, too!
Did You See This?
This week’s new recipes included one of my very favorite salads to top a salad and shows once again why I am mathematically challenged, plus the best dry rub for ribs made with ingredients that are likely sitting sad and alone in your pantry right now.
You know what you should do? Keep your eyes open for my new favorite rib recipe (shown at the top of this post!) coming next week, then invite the rub and ribs to the BBQ and put them in your party plans, too!
But enough about me, let’s dig into this week’s Friday Faves
You may not be sitting around the campfire with us this weekend, but you can still have s’mores as this cookie. yummmmers.
We’re also be making our favorite hobo dinners—is that totally not PC to say??? I don’t want to offend any hobos :)—but these foil packs look pretty darn tasty too.
If I wasn’t making Ali Smudge her traditional birthday cake pie this weekend, I’d totally be making this cake for her instead.
These fish taco bowls look straight up delicious.
And this shrimp cobb salad is totally in my favorite flavor lane.
plus…
Ketchup shrimp stir fry? Sounds weird but it totally looks good, because, hello, shrimp!
This salmon dinner is for sure on the plan.
Pink is my love language so no wonder I love this hummus.
and…
4 add-ins to switch up regular hummus. Smart!
Weeknight chicken dinner alert! Looks so easy and mangos are so cheap right now!
and then…
You could have these mango tango bowls for breakfast the next day.
9 no-cook lunches you don’t have to even work at.
It’s like my favorite salad had a baby with my husband’s favorite vegetable. Totally making this.
This quinoa salad has my husband’s favorite crunch so maybe he WILL eat it now that he’s on board for eating healthier.
But even on the plan I still have cravings, but these sweet treats just might fit right in and still keep me on track:
- These cookies because they don’t make too many.
- I can totally see these as my once a day snack (with 70% cacoa please.)
- And these no-bake protein balls because hello looking good!
Re-usable food storage ideas, because it just make sense.
Are your standards too high? Maybe you should do this instead.
Maybe you should play Dr. Pimple Popper’s new board game. SO FUNNY!
One part of the weight loss plan you shouldn’t be ignoring.
Take a look at what JCrew is bringing to the game. Nice.
And I’m not a huge fan of Jada’s but this podcast episode sounds like it might be worth a listen.
This home isn’t huge by any means (I mean compare it to Adam Levine’s old cavern of a space—but I do love that wood in the kitchen) but the art displays and shelving are making me want to rethink a few things in my own home.
I’ve seen so many older homes with this same tile in perfect condition and they rip it out! Love this before and after that preserved the classic tile but gave the room a modern upgrade.
Put this in the hidden talents section of your resumé: How to fold towel animals at home like a luxury hotel.
So instead of going totally hippie with Birkenstocks, I got these instead and I think I’m gonna like ’em!
This swimsuit in the blue floral print??!! SO DANG CUTE!
What a cute top that can go casual or dressy.
And if you wore this dress to a wedding, you might just outshine the bride :)
Okay, that’s it! I’ll be back with more good eats next week but until then, have a grand weekend and get in the kitchen to cook something good!
