Happy Fri-yay Fri-day my friends!
Viva la Mexico! Last week I shared the beginning of my trip to Tulum, Mexico. I was there thanks to one of my best friends from college and her coercive ways, encouraging me to step out of my boundaries and join her for a yoga retreat on Tulum’s sandy shores.
I am so thankful I did.
I learned I’m a lot more flexible in body and in soul than I knew. I also learned Krista and I make really good travel partners—and that yoga retreats do not exclude wine, guacamole and all the chips.
While I’m not going to become a hippie yoga chick any time soon, after following the form of Casey, our limber leader, and some of the other yoga devotees in the class, I have a whole new appreciation and dare I say “passion” for attempting to master my chaturanga.
The drop dead gorgeous tropical scenery and intention-with-soul-yoga-moves were the original focus of the trip, but as I’ve discovered in so many other areas of my life, in the end the true value came from the people I met.
I connected with some of the nicest, warmest, authentic people on this trip I now call friends—even if our paths never cross again—who enriched my life in ways they will never know. It may have been because we were all feeling in tune with ourselves, or maybe because we were so hot and sweaty that there was no shield to hide behind because it had melted away.
This trip once again reminded me that it isn’t the things in life that matter as much as the experience and relationships you create.
Whew. Someone got a dose of introspection from her daily slather of sunscreen. Maybe there IS something to those Mayan rituals that sunk into my skin.
But enough about me, let’s get into this week’s list of Friday Faves!

I am with Maria on this – I would gladly do yoga all with guacamole as my reward! Heidi, I love this statement so much “This trip once again reminded me that it isn’t the things in life that matter as much as the experience and relationships you create.” It may be my older age but I have been saying the same thing more and more! Great write-up!
If chips and guacamole are involved I could yoga all day! Glad you had fun!
