Food blogging can be a solitary job.
Dreaming up wild ideas on your own, being a one (wo)man show in the kitchen, taking on the tasks of a full-service photo studio to become a food stylist, prop stylist and photographer all wrapped up into one. And then there’s the writing, which is probably the only part of blogging that truly takes just one brain to deliver our sweet and savory, crunchy or smooth ideas to the table.
But this week, I was far from alone. Instead, I went from the mountains of Park City, UT to the flatlands of the midwest to be immersed in food bloggerness thanks to some of the most talented names on the www’s.
First off was The Better Blog Retreat, where a bunch of food bloggers gathered together to talk shop, cook and sit back and savor one another’s company. Seriously one of the best weekends of my blogging days.
I’ll be doing a recap on the blog about that soon and you can check out the Instagram feed of everyone there by following the hashtag #bbretreat, but first I have to share the fruit of a mission I had for the weekend: To see for myself what’s really in Jessica of How Sweet Eats makeup bag.
If you follow Jessica’s makeup posts, you’ll understand why I was compelled to tap into her secret stash.
Tuesday brought an early morning plane ride with my fellow SLC foodie pal Annalise to Des Moines, Iowa, the agriculture capital of the U.S. to met up with a bevy of other fave food bloggers to learn more about corn cattle, hogs and agriculture from the fine peeps at the Iowa Corn.
Then I got all giddy like a 9 year old who just won the cake walk at the school carnival when we all forayed in our big ride to visit…DA-DA-DA-DAAAAH! Better Homes and Garden’s H.Q. in downtown Des Moines. My magazine geekfest was unabashedly in full force.
I’ll soon be doing a full-board recap on this trip too, sharing what I learned about midwest farming and also some enlightening facts that may have changed my mind about opinions on today’s food culture and how it feeds the world that I had in the past
So yesterday as I was combing my notes before hopping on the plane back home, cultivating the hot list of Friday Faves for you, I thought to myself, “Self…why keep the fun of spreading the goodness to little old me? Let’s get these bloggers involved in sharing their favorite things, we all know they have an opinion or two.” Or so I’ve heard.
So here’s our list of Friday Faves via the ladies that were with me on the Iowa Corn Quest learning about corn and agriculture, along with a selection of corn-centric recipes from each of their blogs. We dubbed it a trip of corn-porn, and judging by these pics, you’ll definitely agree.
If you find a food pic you love, Pin it for later! But please click through to the blogger’s sites and Pin from there so they get the credit they so richly deserve.
