Happy Friday friends! So happy to have you here.
As Sonny & Cher serenaded, “And the beet beat goes on.”
But man, am I tired. Emotionally drained. It’s been one crazy week. A week we all knew would be history making. I went back and forth on whether to even talk about it here, but it seemed that it would be really weird if I ignored the elephant in the room because it’s occupied all of us for the past 2 years, and will affect us for the rest of our lives.
After a long, drawn out clash of political views, we can finally say the 2016 election is over. An election where there was so much finger pointing, so many outrageous claims and overall lack of respect for one another and our political landscape left most of us pulling our jaws up off the floor.
But now, whether we like or not, this is where we are folks. It can’t be expected for everyone to be happy with the result, because we don’t all share a unanimous view. That’s just politics. It’s what this country was founded on, what makes it the best country in the world. That we as US citizens have the right and the freedom thanks to those who came before us and still fight EVERY SINGLE DAY so that we can claim our own point of view and use it voice our opinion.
Whether you do or don’t agree with the outcome of this election, think about what you can do to shape the future or this country’s history. What will you do? How will YOU make change? It’s going to take a whole lot more than sharing your opinion in Facebook posts or lamenting with co-workers with a lot of talk about what should or shouldn’t happen. It’s about taking action. And the action starts with all of us.
It’s important to grieve a loss, and okay to claim victory. But the race isn’t over. That was just the warm up. Now it’s game time.
And now, I am done speaking my piece. It’s not my place to judge or preach to any of you.
But it IS my job to preach to my daughter, and I will forever remind her of this one very important fact: “Never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world.” Because nobody can argue with that.
So now, without further ado, let’s dive into this week’s Friday Faves.
Because we can all use a little more funny this week…just sit back, take a minute, and smile.

Recipes I Pinned This Week
I’ve seen so many stellar Thanksgiving recipes this week. Here are a few of the basics I’ve pinned, that I think you should pin too. Because at Thanksgiving time, traditional always wins.
Potato Dinner Rolls
No Thanksgiving is complete without all the carbs, specifically in the form of these buttery, yeasty rolls. They’re also the perfect vehicle for leftover turkey. Thanksgiving sliders, anyone?
Mayonnaise Roasted Turkey
Because it’s mayo is the ultimate moisture maker.
Brown Butter Pumpkin Pie
I can’t think of a more appropriate bread to celebrate fall with than this one right here.

Thank you for your thoughts, Heidi. It’s been a rough week for sure. Certainly seems hard to go about “business as usual”. But we will endure! Going to go watch some of those Ted Talks now!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Heidi, I, too, think it would be odd to not mention the trying, difficult times and horrible election results. I always enjoy your posts and don’t feel you should apologize for what you feel like writing about, it’s your blog!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us Heidi on this challenging week. I know it’s not easy because you never know what you’re going to get by putting yourself out there. I appreciate you sharing your heart and insight. I do volunteer in our community, but feel I need to vary how I spend those hours. Right now I’m attempting to find peace and learn to accept what we’ve collective decided. Thank you for this fabulous round up of delicious recipes and hilarious dog video!! I SO needed that! xo

I absolutely love your Friday Faves posts. I have been reading blogs for years but never comment. After reading your post-election thoughts, as well as the readers’ comments below, I felt compelled to respond. I’ve been looking to gain some consolation, insight, and inspiration because I, too, had a hard time with the election results. Thank you, Heidi, for being brave enough to approach this topic and for your very wise words. Keep up the great work!
STH
It has been strange the last few days to see many of the blogs I read go merrily about their business and ignore that elephant. It has been a hard week for many of us–very hard–but I’m also thinking about ways to make things better, including some new volunteering possibilities. Thanks for the post and best to you and your family.
heidi
Thank you Sth for your support and understanding where I’m coming from. In the end, this is a place where I post things about my life but in a very public forum. I totally get where we can all use some escapism from time to time but when something affects us a whole society, it’s something I can’t really ignore even here on the blog. Volunteering is a GREAT way to go. My daughter and I have been doing a whole lot of it this year and I’ll be sharing an opportunity you and many more can help this holiday for a super simple way to help feed those in need. Stay tuned! And thank you for your comment.

Didn’t sign up for political commentary, just the opposite, to get away from it):
heidi
Thanks VJ for checking in, there should be a fair amount of links there to take you away from it all. Be sure to check out the funny dog videos, they’re hilarious.

I always love Friday faves. Those potato rolls look delicious, thinking about eating one stuffed with turkey and cranberry sauce, maybe adding a little stuffing.
heidi
I’m with you on the stuffing and cranberry sauce. The best for leftovers!
Hedy
Although I enjoy your posts and signed up to read about food/lifestyle/travel and other FUN stuff … I wasn’t looking to read about politics, etc., etc., … please stop!
heidi
Hi Hedy, this is the only time you’ll see any politicizing, it’s been a big part of my week and I couldn’t post all the fun stuff and not mention it. We’re back to our regularly scheduled stuff…not to worry.
Donna
It didn’t offend me. It is a current topic and you were not judgemental. That’s what you do in YOUR blog.
