Happy Friday my friends! And a spooky weekend at that.
There’s only a few more days of fright left to be had, so I hope you’re going to make the most of it and get out there to carve all the pumpkins and spook all the alleys.
In This Post
Last week wrapped the end of my traveling for the rest of the year and I am so.happy.about.it. I can’t even tell you. Well, I already did tell you last week, but this is officially my fall break. As my mom says, “I’M ON MY BREAK!” Well, not from work, but just from the extra curricular activities I like to sign on to.
I am so ready to hunker down and get cozy with the holidays. Let’s do this.
I ended my traveling days with a shebang when a group of food bloggers joined us in Deer Valley, UT for the Better Blog Retreat where we all annoyingly took photos of our food. But with good intention and absolute passion.
I won’t go into a lot of details now as I’ll be sharing more soon, including some seriously delicious recipes, but the weekend was just the oomph I needed to get me thinking about 2017 and all the opportunity I can create for my business, my personal life and my happiness in general.
I’ve Been Hiding Something…
I’ve been trying to focus more on me, but still on others, but in a way that works for both my professional AND my personal life and I hope for yours too.
And so, I have something REALLY exciting to share about a passion project I’ve been working on for the past two years with Alexa of Simple Roots Wellness, the project I’m going to be giving you guys the big reveal next week. Oh man. I hope you guys are going to like it as much as I do.
You know how these things go. When you work on something for soooo long, and you get soooooooo close to it that at the end you wonder if its even any good anymore?
That’s totally me.
This past weekend’s retreat gave me some space to remove myself from the project. And when I came back home, and went back to work on it again, I realized, HOT DAMN! This IS really cool. It’s something t I know I would buy for myself (because I love being motivated and thus more organized) and I think it will help a whole lot of people.
At least I hope. There I go again. The doubting Thomas. But honestly, I’m just excited to get it out there for you to judge for yourself.
But until then, let’s check out this week’s list of Friday Faves. Dig in!
Okay, now it’s time to tuck into this week’s Friday Faves! Happy Halloweening, friends!
Here’s a little puppa-lova to get your freak out on.
I’m not one for caramel apples, but I LOVE this bloody version.
I’ve TOTALLY been into my Instant Pot and my husband has become a convert too, and so this cookbook (so good!) has been on high rotation. I’ll be sharing a recipe from it soon!
Spooky Halloween dinners because everyone needs to eat spaghetti brains once.
OMG! These dog costumes all involve food. The beautiful union of my two loves!
Making these as soon as humanly possible (oh the fabulous porky goodness)!
This pasta just put me on the fork twirling team.
This pumpkin bundt has me ready to bake.
but then…
This bundt is so amazingly Halloween appropriate, I mean, spookalicious!
This dessert just married two of my favorites into one.
How to throw a dinner party like Ina Garten—yes, she is the queen and I cannot WAIT to get her new cookbook.
although…
I recently mentioned this idea of how to throw a dinner party, but its so good I need to again. I’m obsessed with the concept. Now I just HAVE TO DO IT!
This pantry is every cooks dream. Hell, even if you don’t cook you’d want it just to covet!
Are bar carts still a thing? If so, I’m loving the looks of this one and here’s tips on how to stock it.
Whaaat? Facebook just announced their version of Snapchat filters. Instagram stories can’t be far behind…
Smudge is at the age when scary movies are hitting their Halloween prime time. I think a scary sleepover is in order tonight with the best Halloween movies streaming on Netflix right now.
plus…
I’m digging this scary flick list…Get ’em in before they’re gone!
56 pumpkin carving stencil ideas. That’ll keep you busy.
And if I had half the talent to create these amazingly over the top makeup ideas for Halloween, I’d dress up every day all year!
I love these non-cheesy ideas of how to turn your home into a haunted house. Saving for next year.
Doubling up with a pal for your costume? Check out these awesome two-person costume ideas…
This family totally wins at Halloween. What they did this year is my favorite!
So, this happened this week. After months of an annoying pain in my foot, then buying new running shoes with better arch support, wearing my clogs religiously and dosing up on ibuprofen, I finally made a doctors appointment and guess what I get? A new boot for 6 weeks. Apparently I’ve been walking around with a cracked heel for months that has become agitated and created Achilles tendonitis in my foot.
But I’m okay with wearing my disco boot because otherwise its surgery, and I DON’T want that. So I’m thinking about investing in a bedazzler, because who knew there were so many ways to decorate a walking boot?
While I think that Utah has some of the best fall leaves around, this list of the best Airbnb rentals for catching the fall foliage makes me ready to head for some other hills.
Can’t wait till this show comes out. Naughty naughty. So of course I loved the book.Â
speaking of books…
10 page-turners you should be reading this fall. #4 is one of my most loved classics I need to re-read, and I can’t wait to read #6, but I know I’m gonna need lots of Kleenexes.
This Gilmore Girls reunion trailer is everything.
Move over fiddle leaf fig…there’s a new, less temperamental plant in town…
I love DIY makeovers and this budget-friendly bedroom makeover and it’s rustic wood headboard? Yes.
Totally digging this bathroom and it’s DIY floating sink shelf.
Crushing on these genius IKEA plant hacks.
Shut the front door! Zara has a HOME section? There goes the bank account…
I think I may have a bit of a poncho problem…but I’m kind of all right with that.
I bought this sweater last week at my favorite SLC boutique and then walked back in to buy one for Smudge because she is a lover of anything and everything SOOOOOO SOFT. I have been living in it ever since.
How insane are these rose gold kicks?! O.M.G.!!!!
These boots are gorgeous. They’d even look good with my walking boot.
This sweater dress is on sale and I think I might have to snag it. Simple. I like simple.

Hey Heidi! So I haven’t checked out your blog in a while, but that won’t happen again!:) Thanks for all the great links! I’m with you on Big Little Lies. It’s my favourite by Moriarty and I can’t wait for the series to start!!!
I’m also a huge bookworm (I’ve read 70 books this year so far. Aiming for 100. I hope I make it!) If not, there’s always next year.
If you love thrillers, here are a few recommendations:
I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh (I read this TWICE this year!)
These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf
Find Her by Lisa Gardner (I literally just finished this one. I read it in less than two days! Highly recommend it.)
heidi
Oh Donna! I am a huge thriller fan. Thank you so much for the recs!!
Cori
Careful with the boot! I had 4 foot surgeries unfortunately which included being in and out of these boots for like 2 years. They totally messed up my gait, alignment, and ended up actually likely causing enough issues in my feet for my last surgery. Wear the boot, but maybe invest in something that will even it out with your other foot/use crutches as well? Stupid boot!
heidi
Oh man, that’s terrible Cori. Thank you for the advice! Luckily, my Dansko clogs are about the same height so I’m pretty even :)
